What Information Should You Gather At The
Accident |
Whether you bought the cheapest auto insurance or
low rate car insurance, your insurer will need to have
the following facts. The more information you can gather
the better.
- GET FULL INFORMATION FROM THE DRIVER OF
THE OTHER VEHICLE.
This information should include:
- The drivers license of the driver
- The car license number
- The name of their insurance company
NOTE: Even if they bought the cheapest auto insurance,
you should still expect full service even from a low
rate car insurance company. All automobile insurers
are required to meet minimum standards.
- The policy number of their auto insurance
- The vehicle identification number
- The make, model, and year of their car
- Their phone number (both cell and landline)
- Their home address
You are required to give your corresponding information
to the others in the accident as well.
NOTE: Just because you bought affordable auto insurance,
you can assure the other people involved in the accident
that they will be dealt with in a courteous manner in
which their interests will be taken into consideration.
- If a tow truck comes, get the name and number of the tow company
- Get the name of the tow truck driver
- Get the names, phone numbers and addresses of any witnesses
- TAKE PHOTOGRAPHS
If you have a digital camera or cell phone with a
camera, take a comprehensive series of photographs
of the scene of the accident.
This should include:
- A close up of the damage to each car (at least 2 shots)
Try to take a good shot that displays the damage clearly
- A close up of the license plate of the other person's car
- A full shot of each car so that you can see one entire car in each photograph along with the damaged area
- A long shot that shows the position of both cars after the accident
- MAKE A DRAWING
Make a drawing that describes what happened and where
the cars ended up after the accident. Stick to the facts
-- just draw what happened as far as you can remember.
Don't try to determine who was at fault -- let the authorities
do that. This drawing should include:
- Date and time of the accident
- Weather conditions
- Where each vehicle was before the accident and which lane it was in and the direction both cars were traveling
- Arrows indicting the moment of impact and where each car was at that moment
NOTE: Any information and notes you gather at the scene
of your accident could be subpoenaed by the other party
in the accident if needed.
DEALING WITH YOUR INSURANCE COMPANY
Remember that a low rate car insurance should not make
any difference in the kind of service you receive from
your affordable auto insurance company. But filing a
full report on time will make a big difference in how
quickly your claim is handled and how much consideration
it is given.
